Swedish-born designer and experienced seamstress Ulrika Vallance, whose fashion career spans more than two decades, has launched a refined loungewear line that celebrates vintage fabrics and early 20th-century silhouettes. The collection highlights buttery-soft silk-cotton blends cut into slips, robes, camisoles and shorts in antique tones and timeless shapes. Each piece is crafted with attention to tailoring, texture and the quiet luxury of wearable everyday pieces.
Ulrika’s path into fashion began at 19, when she left home determined to learn French and pursue design studies in Provence. She trained at the International School in Marseille and then honed her skills through an apprenticeship in Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris studio. Her design journey continued in Florence, where she worked on womenswear, and later in London, where she launched her first label creating bespoke flower girl dresses under the name Ulrika Bogö. Today she lives in New York with her husband, a musician and travel writer, and their two young sons. Her design work now takes place in a small studio housed in a converted can factory near her Brooklyn home.
The debut loungewear collection focuses on silhouettes that merge comfort with elegant detail. Inspired by the 1920s and the romance of vintage tailoring, the Le Marais robe features a low-slung belt and wide pleats reminiscent of flapper-era shapes, offering a relaxed yet structured drape. The Brooklyn robe reinterprets the classic kimono with a modern elbow-length sleeve and clean lines that allow the fabric and cut to speak for themselves. These garments are intended to be worn both at home and beyond, with a design language that feels equally intimate and polished.
Materials are central to the collection’s appeal. The silk-cotton blends chosen for the pieces are selected for their softness, breathability and subtle sheen, which give each garment a vintage-inspired depth without sacrificing durability or easy care. Antique-inspired hues—muted ivories, soft greys, and warm faded tones—underscore the brand’s nostalgic sensibility while remaining versatile for contemporary wardrobes.
Ulrika describes the collection in three words: soft, light, vintage-inspired. Those qualities guide both her fabric choices and her patternmaking, aiming to create pieces that feel effortless to wear and that reflect a lived-in elegance. Beyond aesthetics, the collection prioritizes thoughtful construction, with small details and finishes that elevate simple silhouettes.
Which three words best describe your loungewear collection?
Soft, light, vintage-inspired.
If you had to choose one thing to wear every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would choose one of my mother’s vintage 1960s coats. I’m nostalgic by nature and I love wearing pieces that remind me of people I care about.
Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who embrace learning at any stage of life. Recently I read about a 100-year-old Swedish blogger, and that curiosity and willingness to begin new projects at any age really moves me.
Where’s your favourite place to be?
By the ocean. The sea has a quietness and perspective that I find grounding and creatively restorative.
How do you define style?
Style is choosing clothes that reflect your personality or current mood, and wearing them with confidence and pride.
What are you reading right now?
I’m not reading much at the moment; I’m immersed in a knitwear project that I find very rewarding. In the evenings I often relax with a bit of knitting instead of a book.
What’s your motto?
I love mottos and quotes. My personal motto is:
“Travel light with an open mind.”
Having lived in several countries and moved frequently, I’ve learned to let go of excess and to welcome the lessons new places bring.
