A few weeks ago I was invited to test drive the new Polestar 2. The first deliveries of this strikingly designed electric car arrived in the UK only recently, and I was genuinely excited to experience it firsthand.
Following the Polestar 1, which was an electric hybrid performance model, the Polestar 2 represents the brand’s first fully electric production car. It offers an impressive range and refined performance, with the real-world figure depending on driving habits and conditions. What stood out most was the car’s clean Scandinavian design, thoughtful vegan interior options, and the calm, focused driving experience it delivers.
This was my first time driving a purely electric vehicle, and the experience felt revelatory. The immediate torque and smooth acceleration are thrilling—the instant surge when you press the accelerator makes everyday driving feel more dynamic and responsive. The Polestar 2’s power delivery is seamless, which adds to its confident road presence without compromising comfort.
Everything about the cabin feels intentional and well considered. Controls are simplified and intuitive, which reduces distraction and enhances the driving experience. The car is equipped with an in-car system integrated with Google services, allowing natural voice commands for navigation, music, and other functions by saying “Hey Google,” which proved convenient and reliable during my drive.
Beyond its driving qualities, I was impressed by Polestar’s commitment to sustainability. The company has clearly set ambitious targets to reduce environmental impact and to address issues across the vehicle lifecycle, from material choices to manufacturing processes. The emphasis on transparency and measurable goals suggests a serious effort to make electric vehicles part of a more sustainable future.
Practical comfort was another highlight. The seats are supportive for longer journeys, and the interior materials feel durable yet refined. Road noise is well controlled, and the chassis provides a balanced mix of comfort and agility—ideal for both motorway cruising and winding country lanes. The car’s minimalist aesthetic extends to a well-thought-out storage and cabin layout, giving a sense of space and calm.
During my afternoon driving through the Northamptonshire countryside, the Polestar 2 proved enjoyable in every respect. It delivered confident handling on rural roads, smooth acceleration on straights, and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere inside the cabin. The user interface responded smoothly to inputs, and the built-in navigation made route planning straightforward.
If you’re considering an electric vehicle and value a blend of performance, Scandinavian design, and a clear sustainability focus, the Polestar 2 is a compelling option. It feels modern without being fussy, and its technology enhances rather than overwhelms the driving experience. After spending time behind the wheel, I can say it left a strong impression—owning one has certainly moved up my list of future cars.
