These days the TV competes with smaller devices and social media for our attention, so how a television fits into a living room matters as much as its performance. Samsung’s recent designs aim to address that balance: they reduce visual clutter, improve integration with interiors, and treat the TV as an object of design rather than just a screen.
We were already happy with our existing set, so we wondered how much difference a new model could make. The short answer: quite a lot. Below we share our experience with the Samsung QLED TV, focusing on design, installation, usability and picture quality.

The first thing that stands out is the Samsung QLED TV’s refined aesthetic. If you care about proportion, minimal lines and subtle detailing, you’ll immediately notice the attention that has gone into this design. Every element feels considered: the slim bezel, the finish and the way components fit together all convey quality.
We chose the 55″ curved screen version and paired it with the Studio Stand. The stand has a sculptural, easel-like presence that suits a modern, minimal interior. Rather than trying to hide the TV, it presents it as an intentional focal point—which we like. The Studio Stand feels solid and well engineered, giving us confidence about stability and safety around pets and children.
Installation was straightforward. The TV attaches securely to the stand, and a discreet removable panel in the rear leg allows you to route the near-invisible optical cable and power lead internally. That cable links to a small connection hub where you can plug in external devices, then tuck it out of sight. The result is a clean, minimalist look with minimal visible wiring.
Flexible placement and tidy setup
One of the advantages of a freestanding configuration is flexibility. I work from home and often reconfigure the living room for shoots or projects, so being able to move the TV to a different corner or position is valuable. If you prefer a wall-mounted look, there are low-profile mounting options that sit close to the wall, or you can place the set on a media unit using the supplied stand or an optional tower stand.
We routed our control hub into a cupboard under the stairs, leaving the screen itself uncluttered and visually striking from every angle. The minimalist result suits our space and keeps focus where it should be—on the screen.
Everyday usability
The Samsung OneRemote is simple and elegant in both form and function. Its brushed finish and minimal button layout make it pleasant to hold and easy to use. OneRemote controls multiple connected devices, reducing the need for several remotes and keeping the coffee table tidy. The Smart Hub interface gives quick access to streaming services, games and features like programme alerts, so most content is only a few clicks away.
We also connected an external hard drive and USB stick to the control box to view our own photos and videos. Seeing family albums and home movies on such a high-quality screen is genuinely satisfying.
Picture quality that pulls you in
The picture is the standout. Colour reproduction, brightness and contrast are exceptional. Samsung’s QLED technology uses quantum dots to expand the colour spectrum, delivering vibrant hues and deep detail. The TV adjusts brightness and reduces reflection to maintain contrast across different lighting conditions, so images remain crisp whether the room is bright or dim.
We quickly became more selective about what we watch—low-resolution content stood out poorly by comparison—so we found ourselves seeking HD and UHD programming. The TV is UHD-ready, meaning it will benefit from higher-resolution content as more streaming services and broadcasters adopt it. Nature documentaries, travel shows and cinematic content look especially impressive; the sense of immersion is real and makes viewing a shared experience rather than background noise.
Why the QLED experience matters
The combination of considered design and top-tier picture performance is what sets this TV apart. Quantum dot technology enhances colour volume and brightness, producing images with depth and realism that draw you in. Action scenes feel more immediate and landscapes look richly textured. That heightened visual quality has even changed our viewing habits: we now put phones aside and focus on the programme together, which has brought more relaxed, shared time in the evenings.
To answer our original question—how different could a new TV be?—the difference is both practical and emotional.
